Established in 2007 at Kota Padukere of Udupi District and affiliated to Mangalore University , the Laksmi Soma Bangera Government First Grade College has carved a niche for itself in and around coastal Karnataka. Within a short span of time, the college has earned notability and appreciation from all corner, through its consistent effort to scale newer heights in the process of realizing the higher education dreams of students from poor and backward sections.
The college library started functioning since 2007 to promote and support the teaching and learning needs of the learner. The library aims to provide right information to right person at right time. The college library has 7625 books and subscribes 8 newspapers and 38 print journals and magazines and 6000+ e-journals. The library is been computerized with the installation of Newgenlib Software and library has its own website.

01. Useful Collection of reading materials:
The library is maintained with sufficient books and useful study materials to fulfill the needs of varied learners from all disciplines. The collection includes Subject Encyclopedias, Subject Dictionaries, Biographies, Yearbooks, Competitive exams related books etc. to meet the requirements of users. Quick information’s are extended through internet as and when needed.
02. Orientation:
The orientation programs are conducted every year for the benefit of the users at the commencement of semester. In the program, areas of knowledge, information about subject website, time saving techniques of information searching, various types of reference materials, are provided. Special talks are arranged on how to read the newspapers. The placement officer of the college will visit the library and give tips on preparation for competitive examinations by making use of the study materials available in the library.
03. Ranganathan Day Special Lecture:
Every year, Librarians Day is celebrated to mark the father of library science Dr. Ranganathan’s birthday. Special lecture on changing trends in the information world and behavioral pattern of the readers by experts are organized during the occasion.
04. Book exhibition:
On the occasion of library week in November every year book exhibition is organized. In the exhibition books related to literature, competitive exams, autobiographies of great personalities, dictionaries, encyclopedias, yearbooks etc. are kept open for the user’s attention. Usually book exhibitions are thematic in nature focusing special collections.
05. Motivation through competition:
Students are motivated to cultivate the reading habit by organizing competition such as, book reviews, my favorite book, thought provoking writer etc. and attractive prizes are given. Prize winning articles of students are published in the annual college magazine ‘KADALU’.
06. INFLIBNET:
Our library has already availed the INFLIBNET N-LIST, with the availability of more
than 6000 journals for the benefit of the readers. The librarian will train the students to
make use of the N-LIST.
07. Special privileges to the backward class students:
Through book bank the additional books are issued for the S.C/S.T students and also
they are motivating to make use of the library for their academic excellence. Since
majority of the students are from rural background, Communicative English and
computer awareness books are issued for them to develop fluency.
08. Issue of additional books during examination:
At the time of University level semester examination, additional books are issued to all
the students of different courses and are allowed to keep them until the examination
gets over.
09. Self-Evaluation:
To know the user satisfaction, at the end of every year students and staff feedback is
taken and strive for better services.
10.Books and study materials are provided to alumni’s especially for those who appear for
competitive exams.
