Lakshmi Soma Bangera Government First Grade College is established in 2007 by the Government of Karnataka with the noble intention of imparting higher education to the rural youth. Situated in the southernmost part of udupi district, Kota is set in as a typical rural background. Most of the students belong to either poor income group or middle class income group. The lower income along with no educational institution giving higher education has forced the rural young population to stop their dream of getting higher education.
PREFACE OF THE COLLEGE
India, a country of rich culture. A country with wide diversity. Rural areas are one of the distinctive features of our country which needs to be developed. One of the key factors of growth is the development of education. Education is for all. With this intension the initiatives are taken to establish a first grade college in Kota Padukare a village of Udupi District. The rural youth here if they want to study further they need to travel a lot since the institutions offering higher education are not nearby forcing them to travel a long distance. Further getting education in such institutions is also not easy for them This is mainly due to two reasons: they offer education at a fee which they can not afford and lack of travelling facilities. All these have contributed negatively on the continuation of their education. Hence they were forced to discontinue their education. This made the people worried. Therefore certain initiatives were taken to approach the state administration and the result was establishment of Government First Grade College here.

Originally when the college was started the college was named as Government First Grade College. But later in the year 2011 the college was renamed after the name Late Smt. Lakshmi Soma Bangera, the Mother of Dr. G. Shankar. Therefore now the name of our college is Lakshmi Soma Bangera Government First Grade College. The college initially started functioning with the total strength of 70 students. At that time only two courses wre being offered. They were B.A. and B.B.M Later in the very next year itself the B.Com and BSW Degree were also started. Every year there was a remarkable increase in the number of admission. This increase is because of many reasons such as the results, the curriculum design of university, the demand for higher education, the support of government etc. Over the years the result of students in the examination has also improved.
